What to expect during this tour ?

When you face the Louvre, you understand it is a huge museum. There are 35 000 works of art inside and we know how overwhelming it can get as we have witnessed lost visitors trying to find their ways. You don’t need to worry about that as our licensed guides know the Louvre like the back of their hand. Once you meet them, you just have to let them lead the way. Of course, feel free to ask them questions, guides are always glad to go deeper into details. During this small group tour, the experience is always more intimate.

There are things to see in the Louvre that cannot be missed and Memories DMC France made sure you not only see them but understand what you are looking at. During this tour, you will also learn about the history of the building. It was first a fortress built in 1190. You will see the remains found in 1989. Then, a Renaissance Palace enlarged more and more by the many kings and queens who have lived there for centuries.  Throughout the tour, your expert guide will point out the noticeable elements of the glorious past of the museum. It will be obvious when you reach the Apollo Gallery built for the Sun King Louis XIV. The journey will begin with a 4000 years old egyptian sphinx and up to the Greek Antiquity mother of all the European Art with its most famous sculpture : the Venus de Milo. Also, displayed in a prominent position on top of a huge staircase is the majestic Winged Victory of Samothrace. You will also be able to admire the mysterious Slaves sculpted by Michelangelo.

Step by step, you will get closer to the most famous painting in the world. But just before what about admiring few pieces of Italian medieval paintings. It is a perfect way to step into the Renaissance and understand Leonardo’s masterpiece : the Mona Lisa. Your guide will tell you who she was and what made her so famous, also some secrets will be revealed to you…

What about the French ? As you can imagine, there are numerous french paintings in the Louvre. Your guide will show you the grand formats of the XIXth century. David’s Napoleon’s Coronation, Géricault’s Raft of the Medusa and of course the symbol of France : Liberty leading the people by Delacroix.

What better way to finish the tour than to relax in the breathtaking Apartments of Napoleon III. So decorated that you won’t know where to look !

Meeting point:

Meet us 15 minutes prior to the starting time of the tour next to the Arc du Carrousel that faces the Louvre Museum. You can take the metro and stop at Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre metro station (   line 1 & 7).  Look for the courtyard of the Louvre. Once you see the Pyramid, you will find, facing it, the Arc of the Carrousel across the street.
