Go behind closed doors and see the hidden side of Versailles on this VIP guided tour of the King’s Private Apartments. Not only will you visit the lavish State Apartments, including the glittering Hall of Mirrors, but you will have privileged access to the private rooms of the Kings and Queens, closed to the general public. Let your guide take you behind the scenes and away from the modern day crowds, into the intimate, refined apartments where once only the royal family and their closest friends were allowed.
On this special access tour, you will not only skip the long lines that form daily outside the Palace, but also be granted privileged access to rooms where only a few small groups are allowed to enter.
Did you know that the royal family lived out their lives in public? In the magnificent State Apartments you will learn how the Kings and Queens dressed, ate and even went to bed watched by hundreds of courtiers. But there is a secret side to the Palace of Versailles; rooms where they would escape to once they were alone, sneaking out of their public beds after everyone had left! Smaller and more intimate, but no less magnificent, many of these rooms are still furnished today, with exquisite furniture that escaped the ravages of the revolution.
See one of the most beautifully adorned rooms in the palace, where a young Mozart played the harpsichord for the royal family. Marvel at Louis XV’s incredible clock that shows the actual position of the planets in the solar system and still shows the correct date after two centuries - leap years included! This special tour will also grant you access to either the Royal Chapel or the Royal Opera House, two of the jewels in the crown of Versailles, also closed to the general public. Your expert local guide will bring the Kings, Queens and their courtiers back to life as they lead you through both the public and private rooms of this incredible palace.
Your tour includes a visit to the magnificent gardens, once the setting of balls, parties and lavish festivities. Laid out for the Sun King Louis XIV, these French style gardens impress as much nowadays as they did then, and on certain days will include beautiful fountain displays set to music.
At the end of your tour you are free to return to Paris with your guide or to remain in Versailles at your leisure. Your guide will be happy to give you advice on further places to visit or where to enjoy a great meal in this beautiful royal city.
Note that increased security measures may affect lines as we cannot avoid them. However due to our Skip the Line privilege, we do have access to shortcuts to the security check.
Due to ongoing restoration works in the Palace, some rooms may not be available to see. Should this be the case, our guides will replace these rooms so your experience is complete.
