What to expect during this tour ?

The Ile de la Cité in the heart of the capital is known as the island on which Paris was born. Join us for a tour of the history and timeless structures of this island, including spectacular gothic masterpieces, quaint side streets and imposing medieval architecture.

Meet us at the Pont Neuf or ‘New Bridge’, actually the oldest bridge in Paris, as we begin our tour of this lovely island. Learn about Henry IV,  much beloved King of France, and the charming park where he would once meet his many mistresses, now a favorite place to sit and enjoy a picnic by the riverside. A stroll through one of the prettiest squares in Paris takes us past the stately law courts and the oldest public clock in Paris.

Our first visit is to the Conciergerie. The original royal palace of the kings of France, this institution ironically served as a prison during the French Revolution. This was where Marie Antoinette was finally incarcerated, tried, and condemned to the guillotine in 1793. Learn about the conditions of the prisoners of the period as you glimpse into this most turbulent period of French history.

Sitting next to the Conciergerie is the Sainte Chapelle, a small gothic church that’s absolutely irresistible due to the world-famous stained glass panels that surround the upper level.  King Louis IX, better known as Saint Louis, ordered the construction of this edifice in the 13th century to house his holy relics. We’ll skip the often long lines, but our biggest added value is your guide’s explanations and assistance inside. The spectacular stained glass windows were modeled on religious manuscripts of medieval times, and your guide will help you “read” them!

It’s a short walk from here to the Notre Dame Cathedral. This 850-year-old church is not only a widely recognized symbol of the city, but also the epitome of the gothic architecture styles that originated here in the Paris region. Your expert guide will accompany you into the church and lead you around the interior, giving you essential context, pointing out some of the largest rose windows in Europe and show you where the relics of Christ’s crown of thorns are kept.  Exiting Notre Dame you’ll have a chance to admire the magnificent exterior and hear of the personalities, real and fictional, bound up in the fame of the cathedral.

Join us for an afternoon spent  exploring one of the most historic and fascinating parts of the city.

Note that increased security measures may affect lines as we can't avoid them. However due to our Skip-the-Line privileges, we do have access to shortcuts to the security checks.
